tree

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday for many reasons.  When I was younger it was all about the presents, now that I’ve grown up a bit more its all about the traditions and in giving I get so much more joy than receiving presents.  Putting up the family Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving has become one of my favorite parts of the weekend, and now I’ve started a new tradition of putting up my own Christmas tree.  This is my first Christmas tree outside of my home in Warsaw, we never had one in college and I just didn’t have the space to do it at my Chicago apartments, but now I have space and it was a blast to put it up today.  As an added bonus, it is a great source of light to help light up the aparment, I’m sure many of my guests will appreciate that when they visit as my place.  I think I need some more ornaments for it though.  I’ve got a few unique ones like a Colts ornament and a Rudolph snow globe, the rest are your typical: gold, red, and green bulbs.

I’ve got a big week ahead of me here and I’m excited for it.  Tuesday-Thursday is a work conference here in Indy, Mom and Dad are coming down, and Mom will get to see my new place for the first time.  That means that tomorrow will be spent cleaning in between work stuff.  Tuesday night is going to be awesome, the Duke Blue Devils are coming to West Lafayette to take on the Boilermakers.  I’m so stoked and so lucky to have some amazing seats for the game.  You are hearing it here first, the Boilermakers are going to bounce back after getting worked over by the idiot ref’s last weekend to hand Duke their first loss of the season.  I’m predicting a very close game with a last second bucket from Etuan Moore to give us the win 72-69.  On a side note, its just awesome to get the chance to see Duke live, I’ve respected them for so long and Coack K seems like a really classy guy who does it right, but Purdue will prevail!

Its looking like their is a trip to the Cactus in store for next weekend too, so Brucey be ready for a hell of a night.  Thats all for now, check back soon, I’m sure I will have more on my mind.

Rick Astley Strikes Again

When I got back home Thanksgiving morning from the lake I was greeted to the greatest Thanksgiving suprise I could ever ask for during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  I’m sitting there watching some muppets or something sing the theme song from Rob and Big when what do you know Rick Astley walks out and Rick Roll’s all of America in person.  Rick F***ing Astley, how awesome is that.  To see it in all of its greatness check the video below out.

Hope everybody had a good holiday, I sure did and I’m excited for the rest of the weekend too.  I picked up a Christmas Tree today and am really excited to get that setup down in the the apartment.  The only down thing over the holiday was the refs that freaking gave Oklahoma the win over Purdue in the NIT season opener championship game.  It was freaking rediculous, Oklahoma shoots 42 free throws throughout the game and Purdue gets 5.  At the end or regulation as Etuan Moore is going for the win he got totally hacked and what do you know but there was a no call pushing the game into overtime.  More terrible calls and thats all I have to say about that, bring on Duke Tuesday, we will be ready!

Thats all for now, today’s C-List favorite Thanksgiving foods.

The C-List

1. Dressing Balls
2. Mashed Potatos
3. Pumpkin Bars
4. Sugar Creme Pie
5. Turkey

Digg is back

Well I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while so here it is.  I’m soooooooo glad Digg.com is back to what it was like pre-election mania.  Once the two candidates were known it went crazy.  For those of you that don’t know let me give a quick explanation of how Digg works.  The site is all user generated content, if you find a story/video/picture/etc that you like on the internet, you can go and submit it to Digg.  From there other people will see the story and if they like it they will “Digg” it.  The stories that get the most Digg’s get moved to the front page for more people to see, and that is a LOT of people.  In the United States it is the 128′th most popular site.  I don’t know what kind of numbers that turns into, but its a large number.  Okay so now hopefully you have an idea about the site in general, back to the elections.  In the few months coming up to the elections you could not go to Digg.com without seeing at least 7 out of 10 stories on the front page saying how great Obama was and how terrible of a person John McCain or Sarah Palin were.  There was one Pro-McCain article that ever made it to the top 10 in the months leading up to the election from what I saw and I check the site on average 6-8 times a day to see whats going on.  I heard an article from an Obama staffer saying that this was part of their strategy that made it really frustrating.  Pretty much the person said they had a huge staff that their entire job was to go around to sites like this and others on the Internet and make sure anything Pro-Obama and Anti-McCain was seen by more and more people.  Funny how it worked but 2 days after the election was over you really stopped seeing most of the political stories pop up on Digg.  What a coincidence.  You will still catch one here and there which are most likely legitimate stories that have been moved to the front page from real users compared to the way it was pre-election.  Either way I’m just glad all that crap is over and now Digg is finally back to more interesting things, it was generally a pretty techie site where you could find a lot of good info on whats going on in the technology world.  Since its massive growth in popularity in the time that I have been following the site (2-3 years) you start to see more non-tech stuff on there which isn’t a bad thing as you see a lot of funny stuff there too.  The popularity of the site lead to the creation of the VidCast DiggNation which if I am correct is the most popluar podcast/vidcast on the Internet, which has also led to the creation of Rev3 (if I have all my facts straight).  Okay well now I just feel like I’m blabbing but I’m just happy Digg is back, on to other things.

How about them Boilermakers.  Good send off for some important people to Purdue.  Joe Tiller, Curtis Painter, and Kory Sheets (along with others) coached/played their last game for Purdue on Saturday and they went out in style by absolutely dominating the Hoosiers 62-10.  It was a great day in general, even my Hoosier friends had fun despite the cold.  We drank a lot of whiskey and rum, and even slapped the bag a few times.  There was a cougar sighting and somebody almost got in a fight, that’s a good tailgate!  Other good Boilermaker news is that the Basketball team is still undefeated going into the NIT tourney this week and Drew Brees is currently tearing apart the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.  All is good right now.

Quick thought as I’ve got MNF audio on in the background as I write this, this new Jim Carrey movie is a terrible idea.  Yes Man is what is is called I think, and somebody brought this comment up over the weekend but I forget who, so credit to you if you are reading this.  Is this not the same movie as Liar Liar except that he has to say Yes to everything, from what I remember Liar Liar pretty much sucked and this looks like the exact same thing.  I really like Jim Carrey but what was he thinking doing this movie?

Back to football, Colts were awesome last night!!!  BOHICA San Diego and Phillip Rivers.  Thats about all that needs to be said about that I think.

Hope everybody is excited for Thanksgiving this week, I know I am, it is a great week in general with all the activities that go on between Wednesday night, Thanksgiving itself and the rest of the weekend.  I need to get a Christmas tree this weekend for my apartment.  Laurel gave me a great idea to go check on Black Friday at one of the local places, so hopefully I’ll have a tree when I make it back to Indy this weekend.

Enough for now, I’ll try to get in another post or two during the week but I’ve got a lot of stuff going on so not sure when I’ll get to it.  Thanks for checking out colinnicol.com the webs 7,721,398th most popular site!

Time to Boiler Up

I almost hate to say this, but I now know what its been like for many years to be an IU basketball fan with all kinds of high hopes.  I am so excited for Purdue Basketball this year, more excited than I have ever been.  Our team so far is looking great.  We’ve played 3 games, are 3-0, and the average score at halftime has been 40-20.  I know that the teams we’ve played so far aren’t great but hey its good to start out hot and get the kinks worked out, I believe we have 3 games left before we host Duke at home.  Man I can’t wait until that game and yes I will be there!  You are really going to have to watch out for our defense because it has been amazing.  At one point last night Loyola had 15 turnovers and only 14 points.  The last two games we have forced over 20 turnovers which has been a big help as our rebounding hasn’t been great so far, but everything else has.  The great thing is to watch how the team responds when our all around best player has been going out early with foul trouble.  Everytime the rest of the team steps it up, its exciting to see everybody play and we really have been getting great performances from so many.  Last night we had 5 players in double figures which says a lot in the college game.  BTFU!

Well South Park’s season finale is tonight I hate to say, and to be honest I feel like this season as well as the past couple have kind have been let downs.  Maybe its because in the past they have just shocked me so much with how far they have pushed the line, I just haven’t said to myself “I can’t believe they are doing this” this season or last.  Not that they haven’t been entertaining because they have, just not the same shock value that I strive for.  Anybody else a big south park follower?  Leave some thoughts on this season if you are.

The closer this weekend gets the more excited I am for Saturday.  I have lots of good memories from Oaken Bucket games in the past.  Sam just reminded me of a fun trip when the girls from IU made a trip up to Purdue and Shelby had an encounter with an interesting character.  Wasn’t he Mr. Ecko though Sam?  Either way weekends filled with lots of partying and usually a Boilermaker victory, I sure hope we can do it this year in Joe Tiller’s last game before he heads off to his new fishing home that he is building in Wyoming.  Guess he’s sick of the mid-west and I can’t blame him, if I remember correctly he didn’t really want to leave but kind of got forced out.  Either way he has done a lot to change our program for the better, now we just need somebody else to take us to the next level.

I’m still kind of on a Bond high after seeing the new movie on Sunday, because of this I watched Casino Royale again last night and it was a lot of fun to watch after seeing Quantum of Solace.  I was able to pick out Mr. White in 3 other instances that I missed the first few times watching Casino Royale.  With that and then remembering Quantum of Solace I would think its safe to say we haven’t seen the last of him or his organization.  Hopefully the next Bond movie picks up right where this one left off.

Time to wrap it up for now, I think I need to get another video blog up here before long though.  Maybe I’ll get to that later today, if you have an idea for a topic leave a comment and let me know, see you soon.

Hey guys, just wanted to get something up here real quick.  How did the work week start off for everybody?  Good hear, landed a couple deals, not a bad start for the week.  Rewarded myself by making some absolutley fabulous spaghetti tonight.  I never realized how easy it was to make spaghetti sauce the way I like it, you can count that new dinner in to happen once every couple weeks or so.

Nice job Reedo on starting to get things figured out for our ski trip, I’m so stoked to go and spend a long weekend with everybody.  We should really try to get a ski in / ski out place, that would be tight.

So if you are reading this do me a favor and let me know via comments if you watch the show Chuck or not, it really is a great show and the cast really grows on you.  I’m starting to find myself liking characters that I used to not, besides that for the type of show that it is, it really keeps you hooked in wanting to know what is coming next.  It is for sure my current favorite show on TV, though that may be short lived with 24 starting this Sunday and Monday I would assume.  I can’t wait for 24, and after the last season that they had they better get things right this time around.  From the looks of the previews it looks like they kinda got that point and seem to be taking the show in a bit of a different direction.  Can’t wait to see where they go with it.

Oaken Bucket game is only 5 days away now, anybody else excited.  Hope to see lots of you reading this there at the game for one hell of a final tailgate of the year and a Boilermaker victory send off to Joe Tiller.  Talk to you soon.

Bond is Awesome!

james-bond-daniel-craig12

Well that was one hell of a weekend just to get things started off.  Spent Friday night in Broadripple celebrating Nate’s new job, congratluations buddy, that is really awesome and I’m proud of you.  You have always had your head on straight and have known what you were doing and where you are going.  Btw, I’ve got your phone lol.  Maybe I’ll need to make a quick trip to B-Town this week for some Mother Bears to deliver it back to you.  So Friday night we saw Hairbangers Ball which was a blast, great 80’s cover band, lots of fun.  Saturday was another great day, Davis and Reedo joined to spend the night and party.  After a quick concert of Guitar Hero World Tour by the Interrobangs it was back to Broadripple to meet up with Nate, Jen, and Amy P.  Had some delicious pizza at Union Jacks, which was the first of many pizza’s over the following 24 hours, Davis and I were on a mission and we succeeded.  After Union Jacks it was back to Casba for the 2nd night in a row for some really strong drinks and good music on the jukebox.  After that we needed some Hot Box Pizza to finish the night off.  While at Hot Box we ran into a really annoying Obama supporter that just kept yelling “Barack Obama” for the 20 minutes while we were waiting for the pizza, big thanks to you Reedo the Enabler.  As I’m sure most of you know I voted for McCain, but Obama was elected and I will give him a fair shot, people like the guy at Hot Box are rediculous though.  On to today, it was awesome, the Colts won again in exciting fashion, followed by some Call of Duty online, and then it was off to see Bond.

This movie was freaking awesome, and I’m so dissappointed that it wasn’t on in one of the IMAX theatres, instead they had on Madagascar 2, come on.  Anyways it was exciting from the very beginning and I would have no objections to going and seeing it again in theatres.  A lot was answered in this movie, but I think it left even more questions.  Davis and I were trying to figure a lot out about the different players and how they fit in to everything, and once again the main girl in the movie was beautiful which is always a plus!  So question to you guys, have you seen Bond yet, and if not do you plan on seeing it in theatres?  Also saw a bunch of good previews during the movie.  Star Trek and The Watchmen were the big ones and both movies look pretty awesome.

So got back here tonight and caught up on Californication as well as Entourage, both were very entertaining and I’m really starting to have a crush on Jamie-Lynn Sigler.  Sad to see that Entourage is coming to a season finale next week, but that will be okay as 24 will be starting up and will surely keep me entertained.

Quick random thought - It was snowing here tonight!  I love snow and am ready to get some skiing in this year.  Possibly a trip up to Boyne over New Years this year, who is interested?

Well thats about it, Nate gave me a good idea for the site that I’m gonna get working on here sometime this week, maybe tonight depending on how it goes.  As many of you know pizza is my favorite food so I’m gonna start rating different pizza places here so you can have an idea of where you can go to get the best around!

With Bond on the mind, tonights C-List will be my top 5 favorite Bond’s, and yes you may be suprised by number 1.  Leave some feedback and find me on twitter at www.twitter.com/purowdy

The C-List
