Oh it feels good to be back, what a weekend it was. Sorry I was unable to write anything while in NYC, but the hotel we were staying at was under major construction and the Internet access was very sketchy. Not that you missed it that much, but I hope that some of this is interesting for you all.

Well to start, I just went for my afternoon workout/skate around the apartment complex and as I’m coming back in I see some guy pull up in a car and say something like “hey man can i get a pic of you on my cell phone, my cousin wont’ believe I saw you” so I put two and two together and realized that the guy he was talking to was Eric Gordon. So I went up and talked to him real quick, asked where he got drafted and he told me the Clippers. I asked when he was going out there, he said he was headed that way next week. Wished him luck and told him he was an impressive player. Yes that is tough to say as a Purdue grad, but the kid was amazing last year. Nice enough for some random guy coming up to him and saying “Your Eric Gordon right?”.

Anyways enough of that, what a weekend it was, flew into NYC Thursday night and got to the hotel around midnight, had some NY style pizza and called it a night pretty much. Friday was a hell of a day, did the tourist thing and took a bus ride all around the city, saw a lot of cool stuff including Ground Zero. Took a walk down Wall St and saw the NYSE, took a ride on the Staten Island Ferry and saw lady liberty. Then went on ride on a cigarette boat and got soaked all around the city, fun times. Bought some knock off lacoste sunglasses, mom and shelbs got handbags, then back on the bus. Got off at the UN building and saw that before catching a cab back up to the hotel to chill for a bit. Later that night went and saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, got to admit wasn’t really looking forward to it but really glad I saw it. It turned out to be awesome. Nice steak dinner afterwards, Christy joined up with the fam and we went out and partied afterwards.

Saturday got up early and headed up to the Bronx to see the Yankees play the Royals. We had freaking amazing seats. 6 rows behind the on deck circle for the Royals, it was amazing to be that close. A-Rod went 0-6 with a walk or something like that which was disappointing, but despite he and other Yankee’s struggles, they pulled out the win in the bottom of the 13th. A good day indeed up at Yankee Stadium. Got back to the hotel and relaxed for a bit before going out to an Italian place for dinner, Christy joined again and we had a good meal. Watched Michael Phelps break the record for most gold medals in an olymic games with 8, congrats, truely amazing. Then went out again and hit up a really cool beer bar with Christy. Had some amazing beers that I had never heard of, had my first Carlsberg, it was called Elephant, good stuff. Called it a night and got ready for Sunday.

Headed out to the airport in the morning and rented a car, then went out to Long Island and saw Jones Beach (amazing), then saw Merrick where my dad grew up. After that went to East Meadow and had pizza at Berolli’s, the best pizza I have ever had. I know some will be skeptical as they know how much I like pizza and I may say that often, this is the new top though. Freaking amazing, went with the standard Pepperoni and Meatball, it was just the best. If you are ever out that way check it out. From there we went back to the airport and sat there for 2-3 hours waiting for a flight into Detroit. Had another 3 hours there waiting for flight to South Bend so we went to a sweet wine bar called Vino Volo (check it out, at like 6 major airports around the country) and had some really good wines and picked up a few bottles to bring home. I was pumped that they had 45 North there, thats a winery that is owned by a family from Warsaw. I used to play tennis with the son of the guy that owns it. So I have a bottle of Pinot Gris from that that I’m excited to try later this week. Hope its good stuff. From there back to South Bend, to Warsaw, then a nice drive back to Indy finally arriving a little after 3 am. So yesterday lets see, I was in: Manhattan, Long Island, Jones Beach, Merrick, East Meadow, Detroit, South Bend, Warsaw, and finally back to the apartment in Indy. Lots of traveling. Overall my first trip to NYC was awesome, got to see a ton of the city and had some great pizza!

You cursed Arod by showing up wearing his jersey. Yanks won’t make playoffs this year because of you now… good luck with that.

Gonna make an Up North trip this fall once Jenks is back to school..gonna check out 45 North if ya wanna go.

I am for sure down to go check out 45 North, let me know what weekend you are thinking and count me in.

Yeah Yankee’s aren’t making the playoff’s this year. Hoping for a Cubs/Sox series, what a time that would be.
